For couples dreaming of a rustic Florida wedding surrounded by open land and country scenery, The Barn on Heartland Farm in Polk City offers a beautiful setting between Orlando and Tampa. Set on 120 acres, this Central Florida wedding venue combines the charm of a country property with an elegant barn reception space.
I had the opportunity to photograph Kendalle and CJ Whistin’s wedding at The Barn on Heartland Farm, and their day was the perfect example of how beautiful this venue can be from the ceremony all the way through sunset portraits and the reception.
A Rustic Wedding Venue in Polk City, Florida
One of my favorite things about The Barn on Heartland Farm is the amount of space surrounding the venue. The property gives couples that true country-wedding atmosphere while still being conveniently located between Orlando and Tampa.
For wedding photography, the open property provides plenty of opportunities to step away from the celebration for portraits without ever having to leave the venue. The natural surroundings also give galleries a completely different look from many of the more traditional wedding venues throughout Central Florida.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies at The Barn on Heartland Farm
Couples can hold their ceremony outdoors surrounded by the natural scenery of the property. The venue offers several ceremony arch options, including a wooden cross, square arch, hexagon arch, and octagon arch, allowing couples to personalize the space to fit their wedding style.
Outdoor ceremonies here also photograph beautifully because the surrounding property becomes part of the backdrop rather than being hidden behind the ceremony space.
Kendalle and CJ's wedding was actually forecasted for rain throughout the day, but the weather cleared just in time to give us a beautiful outdoor setting for their ceremony and portraits.
The Barn Reception Space
The handcrafted barn is the centerpiece of the reception space and combines rustic details with more elegant touches. Inside, three crystal chandeliers, white draping, and oversized barn doors create a space that still feels like a country wedding venue without sacrificing the elegance couples often want for their reception.
The barn can accommodate celebrations of up to 250 guests, making the venue an option for both intimate celebrations and larger weddings.
One of the venue's most unique details is its converted horse-trailer bar, which can be moved around the property depending on the layout of the wedding.
Getting Ready at The Barn on Heartland Farm
The venue also provides dedicated spaces for couples to get ready before their ceremony. The elegant Dream Suite gives the bride and wedding party a comfortable space to prepare for the day, while a separate rustic space is available for the groom and groomsmen.
As a wedding photographer, having getting-ready locations directly on the property is always a huge benefit. It allows me to document more of the morning while keeping everyone close to the ceremony and reception locations.
Sunset Wedding Photos in Polk City
The open property is especially beautiful as the sun begins to set.
During Kendalle and CJ's wedding, we were able to head outside for golden-hour portraits surrounded by the fields and natural scenery. After worrying about rain earlier in the day, getting that warm sunset light made their portraits even more memorable.
This is one of the reasons I always recommend building a little sunset portrait time into a wedding timeline when the venue allows for it. Even 10 or 15 minutes away from the reception can create an entirely different set of images for your final wedding gallery.
The property also works perfectly for couples who want to incorporate personal country details into their photos. CJ brought his truck along for the wedding, which gave us another fun way to personalize his portraits with the groomsmen.
Wedding Photography at The Barn on Heartland Farm
When I'm photographing a wedding at a venue like The Barn on Heartland Farm, I want the final gallery to show more than just what happened throughout the day. I also want couples to remember what it felt like to be there.
That means incorporating the barn, open property, country scenery, sunset, and all of the little details that made them choose their venue in the first place.
Kendalle and CJ's wedding was filled with exactly those moments—from their outdoor ceremony and country-inspired portraits to an energetic reception where Kendalle even took over DJ duties for part of the night.
